Crazy Marriage Laws

So today I ran across an article on Womans Day online about crazy marriage laws that are still in effect today. I thought they were interesting and thought I would share them. So we will start in Montana.

Montana: Marriage by proxy, which means someone stands in for a bride/groom who can't be present at his/her wedding, is limited to members of the U.S. Armed Forces. But of the four states that allow the practice — California, Colorado, Texas and Montana — Montana is the only one that allows double-proxy weddings. Essentially, neither the bride nor groom has to show up. Call us old-fashioned, but it doesn’t seem like the ideal start to the biggest commitment of one's life.

Arkansas: For a few months between 2007 and 2008, anyone under 18 could get married in Arkansas with parental consent. (Yes, even babies — as their parents agreed!) The original law was meant to allow pregnant teenagers to get married if their parents approved, but lawmakers forgot to put in an age minimum. The law was corrected in April 2008, making the minimum age 17 for boys and 16 for girls.

Delaware: Ever been dared to get married ... as a prank? Neither have we. But apparently this happens often enough in Delaware that it's actually an option when couples file for an annulment. Along with the basic reasons such as marrying "without the capacity to consent" or "under duress," couples can now check "because of a jest or dare" when applying to dissolve their nuptials.

Kentucky: In Kentucky, it's illegal to remarry the same man four times. Honestly, good for Kentucky: If you've already divorced him three times, someone should step in. Of course, as long as it's different men, you can get married and divorced as many times as you like.

Massachusetts: The infamous witch trials are long over, but religious conservatism is still alive in Salem. Apparently, married couples are not allowed to sleep in the nude in a rented room. In Truro, MA a groom-to-be must "prove himself manly" by hunting and killing either six blackbirds or three crows.

South Carolina: In South Carolina it's illegal for a man over 16 years old to propose marriage and not mean it. Doing so means he's committing a misdemeanor under the Offenses Against Morality and Decency Act. Not sure if that means he will be forced to marry the woman in question, or if he can't ask for a woman’s hand as a way to seduce her. We hope it's the latter.

Kansas: Many husbands would probably say their mother-in-law isn't their favorite person in the world. But for those who really, really dislike their wife's mother, moving to Wichita, KS, might be a good option. In this city, a man's mistreatment of his mother-in-law may not be used as grounds for divorce.

Connecticut: Imagine it: You get a babysitter so you and your hubby can go out for a romantic dinner. Afterward you take a stroll around town. Caught in the moment, you lean in for a passionate kiss. Busted! The police can cuff you and throw you in jail — that is, if you live in Hartford, Connecticut ... and it's Sunday. Well, maybe not these days, but technically, it’s still illegal in this city for a man to kiss his wife on the Lord's Day.

Louisiana: It’s most likely that your wedding was officiated by a religious figure or judge. Or, if you're a bit more eccentric than some, you had a friend become ordained so he or she could marry you. New Orleans has made it illegal for palm readers, fortune tellers, mystics and the like to officiate a wedding. Guess they don't want you peeking at your future — you'll just have to go into it with blind faith like everyone else!

So there you have it, make sure you abide by all these marriage laws especially when in those states! Comment if you have heard anyothers, I would love to hear them.

Finally the wonderful Mrs. Destiny!

So when I wrote my first true post about Amy and her cake pops, I mentioned Mrs. Destiny, who is a friend of mine and is absolutely fabulous! So without further adieu: www.aplaceforusblog.com/ . Now let me tell you a little bit about Mrs. Destiny. She is happily married to Mr. Reggie, has 3 beautiful babies Mikel, Mikah, and the sweet little Alivya, has a straight out of Better Homes and Gardens house and makes the most awesome cakes. All this and still has time to be crafty!

She just recently did a post about her patio redo and it is a must see, again straight out of a magazine! I did a little interview with Mrs. Destiny.

PinkPosies: How did you become part of the blog world?
Mrs. Destiny: Well, I think like most blogs mine started off as a family blog and then turned into something else after being features on Just a Girl and a few months later on House of Smiths. But the first time I ever read a blog was my friend Brittany. It was like scrapbooking online :0) I loved it and have ever since!

PinkPosies: How do you maintain a beautiful house while being crafty and still taking care of 3 little ones and Reggie?
Mrs. Destiny: Hmmmm, well I'm the first one to say that my house is not maintained. It's a bit crazy actually! lol..What you see on my blog MOSTLY is my best foot forward. A clean "staged"space. Because everyone likes to look at things that are pretty including me. You will also get a glimpse of real stuff too though :0) But day to day we are just a regular family with the all of the responsiblites. Blogging for me has always been a hobby and I'm not sure when and if it will be more than that. Right now I have three babies that need me and a big baby who needs me even more! My blog can't come before them :0) I can't post 5 days a week...sometimes I can't even post one day a week! But I'm ok with that. The followers that I have are the ones who love just seeing what I'm up to and I like it like that!
I decorate/Craft/Blog during nap and mostly at night those are really my only down times! I drag the kids to Micheals and get them a project to work on also. I try to do most of the projects outside so they can play.

PinkPosies: To date what is your favorite craft project, DIY remodel/home make-over, or recipe you have done?
Mrs. Destiny: Let's see, right now its our dining room/living room area!!!! The before and afters are always fun to look at! We use to call it a dance floor/cave. But now it's starting to be one of my favorite places in our home :0)

PinkPosies: What are your blog plans for the future?
Mrs. Destiny: I'm always adding new things to my blog! I just recenlty finished up a 5 week series called {Be Inspired} I plan on launching two more series this year...I Love my Home and Your Invited! Be on the look out! Reggie and I are also going to continue working on the house and upgrading little by little! This summer I would love to finish the living/dining room space! Also start on the laundry room and the office!
I'm really just letting the Lord lead me as far as growing my blog:0) If opportunities arise from blogging I first pray and seek councel from my hubby or close friends. If it's not right for my family then we just won't do it!

PinkPosies: Thank you so much Mrs. Destiny I loved having you!
Mrs. Destiny: Thanks so much Liana!!! It was a joy and I look forward to see more from your BLOG!
